V’s TORTWORTH Sunday 12th May 2002
Tortworth were welcomed to Vic’s Oval on an overcast afternoon. The toss was won by the visitors who elected to field, hoping to make use of the conditions and wicket. The decision proved to be correct when Hopkins was removed cheaply in the third over. This brought to the crease J Russell (78) who batted freely on a pitch helping the bowlers whilst watching wickets fall steadily at the other end, until he was finally bowled by D Holpin. I Knapp then entered the fray and when finding his timing went on to 42 Not Out. Oldburys innings ending on 192 for 8. Oldbury struck early with the ball A Harris (7-4-14-4) the pick of the Oldbury bowlers removed the leg stump with his first two deliveries, ably backed up by M Pearce (7-4-11-1). Oldbury pressed on restricting the Tortworth batsmen, allowing only 3 to make double figures, finally bowling out the visitors with the score on 92. A fine result with Oldbury winning by 100 runs.
