RETURN TO FIXTURES AND RESULTS
Llanhilleth Away Sunday 3rd June 2001
Llanhilleth 284-8. C.Townsend 152. G.Jones 51. D.Garrett 5-74.
Oldbury 88 all out. B.Gazard 37.
Torthworth lost by 194 runs.
Not a day to remember from the Oldbury cricket perspective. Llanhilleth's Townsend, clearly a cut above our normal opposition standard, thrashed all our bowlers around the Welsh valleys for a very impressive 152. Oldbury had no answer despite Derek Garrett's haul of 5 wickets. Our response to a massive 284 total was woeful respite some resilience from Bob Gazard. Otherwise it was a good day out. Shame we didn't get Nigel's tressle of sandwiches, but we did have some memorable moments. Top of the day was silver fox Gerry Dyke now pretending he's a swan coming in to land. Then there was striker's arrogant single - the longest single in history as he strode between the steps in what might have been typical WG fashion. Then there was striker's wicket - a run out on a single from deep fine leg - at the bowlers end! Then there was Mark 'Hustler' Russell embarrassing old hands Trestle Hopkins and I can't bend down Garrett on the Pool table. Thank god for the Chinese chips and a beer to bring back a sense of normality. Well done Llanhilleth - we'll stuff you next year!
