Des King XI Home Sunday 25th June

Oldbury 177-7 in 30 overs. N.Hopkins 106no.
Oldbury won by three wickets.
Following two days of hectic activity with the Barn Dance and the Millennium Fair, not to mention some delicate heads, searching for cricket balls in Vic's jungle was not something Oldbury had in mind. After an initial tight spell by Derek Garrett, Jamie King took to Colin Johnson's rustiness like a Tom Sullivan takes to whisky. Some mighty hits launched Jamie to an impressive 67 and a 200+ total looked likely. However, Colin took his revenge culminating an interesting spell with 4-44, and an impressive 3-17 off 8 overs from Ian Knapp saw Des King XI struggling for momentum and spluttering to 176-9.
Oldbury's response was dominated by a magnificent knock from Nigel Hopkins. With Nigel always in control at one end, the same could not be said of the other, and cheap Oldbury wickets kept Des King XI in with a shout. However, Nigel reached his century, finshing on 106 not out as Oldbury passed their target in 30 overs with three wickets to spare.
After match talk turned to the tour in 'Tour'quay next weekend where we look forward to Nigel's double jugs.
